Airframe Ultra Beta 5 Desperada Playtest

September 2026 Join the Playtest: shops, bike building, a new rider, and a Monday cutoff.

Airframe Ultra Desperada Playtest

Airframe Ultra is still coming soon on Steam for Windows. On September 3, 2026, Videocult and Akupara posted Beta 5: Desperada and pointed the store page at Join the Playtest. That button is a timed test, not the 1.0 client. If you miss the window, the download can sit idle or roll back to a quieter demo until the next flip. Use this page as the Desperada briefing: how to get in, what the post promised, who the new rider is, and where to dump bugs.

This is not the February 2026 Steam Next Fest open beta. Community wikis often labeled that Next Fest window “Beta 5.” Steam’s September post reuses the Beta 5 number for a later playtest with a new rider, shops, and bike building. If a friend says they played Beta 5 in March, they mean the Next Fest demo. If they mean Desperada, they mean this September Join the Playtest. The older public snapshot is on Demo and Playtest. Closed weekends and the naming mess sit in Beta History.

Join the Playtest, then watch the clock

Open the Airframe Ultra Steam page, wishlist the full game if you have not, then use Join the Playtest. Public tests in 2026 have reused that store control instead of mailing Discord keys. You still want Discord for chatter and surveys. You do not need a Google form to install this build while the window is open.

The post said the playtest ends Monday 9am PST after September 3. Plan a session before that cutoff. Servers and the playtest flag can drop even if the Steam button still looks clickable for a few hours. Online matchmaking is the public path. Split-screen is still part of the game — do not write Desperada off as online-only because the news post talks about circuits, and do not write it off as local-only because an older tutorial demo hid the queue. Both online PvP / co-op and split-screen exist in the design.

If Join the Playtest is grey or missing, the window is closed. Check Steam news and the Links Hub rather than hunting a third-party installer.

Progression, shops, and bike building

The September 3 post is the first public test that leads with new progression, shops, and bike building. Earlier betas were map-and-systems weekends: Warehouse, a handful of courses, four airframes, a four-slot kit. Desperada is the first time the store copy treats the garage as the headline instead of a new track name.

Spend time between circuits on the shop floor. That is the point of the test. The August Josh Q&A already warned that current cosmetics will not survive once EXP and leveling ship. Beta racers get exclusive cosmetics and can re-earn looks through the new systems. If you painted a rider in February, do not treat that file as a forever locker. Learn how bikes are built and what the shop sells, then copy a kit into the loadout planner so you are not improvising in Warehouse.

The four-slot rule from earlier tests is still the language of a match: one melee, one ranged, one throwable, one special. Bike building does not mean you take two shotguns. It means you assemble an airframe and a rider, then take that package into online play or split-screen. If the shop offers a specialist frame, remember Bluntnose is still the sane first pick unless you already know why you want Vector, Cruiser, or Hopper.

Who Desperada is

Desperada is a new rider, not a new airframe. The Steam copy puts her in Baja, moving JP-8 fuel into the Ultra Circuit. The rumors the post repeats are flavor: insider broker, fuel-baron daughter, or just a badass. None of those bios are a hidden stat sheet. Body type, airframe, and Rider Suit still decide whether you eat shotgun. Treat her as a preset face for this playtest, then rebuild the look in the creator if you want the same vibe on a bike you can actually steer.

If you have not finished a circuit on a default bike, skip the lore and open Getting Started. Desperada will still be in the roster after you can vote with your feet. For how demo contents shrink between tests, use the demo guide.

Bugs, feedback, and a Direct in the same week

Official copy asked testers to send feedback and bugs to Discord and bugs.akuparagames.com. File crashes, stuck spawns, shop errors, and bike-builder glitches with the build ID, map, and whether you were online or in split-screen. Support mail (support@akuparagames.com) is for store problems, not balance essays. URLs sit on Links.

Akupara’s ten-year Direct on September 6, 2026 at noon PST streams on Akupara Twitch with Alpha Beta Gamer and is scheduled to include Airframe Ultra news. That broadcast sits inside this playtest week. Watch it if you want the publisher’s next sentence; do not wait for it to finish before you install, because Monday 9am PST does not wait either.

Play the loop you came for: create a rider, buy or build a bike, run a circuit, vote, report the jank. Then leave. Grinding a closing playtest like a live-service season is how you overfit a shop that may change before 1.0. The June weekend that came before this one is Megacity Open. The full game remains coming soon.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for racers still learning Megacity West.

How do I join the Desperada playtest?

Open the Airframe Ultra Steam page and use Join the Playtest while the window is open. Wishlist the full game. Discord is for feedback, not a required key mailer for this public test.

When does the Desperada playtest end?

Steam said Monday 9am PST after the September 3, 2026 post. Treat that cutoff as hard. If the button is gone, the window closed; wait for the next news post.

Is this the same Beta 5 as February 2026?

No. Community pages called the February 2026 Next Fest open beta Beta 5. Steam's September 2026 post is also titled Beta 5: Desperada. Different tests, different features. See Beta History for the naming.

Who is Desperada?

A new rider, not a new bike. Steam places her in Baja hauling JP-8 into the Ultra Circuit, with rumors she is an insider broker, a fuel-baron daughter, or just a badass. Stats still come from body, airframe, and kit.

What is new in this playtest besides the rider?

The September 3 post leads with new progression, shops, and bike building. That is the garage test. Circuits, online play, and split-screen still sit on top of that loop.

Where do I report Desperada bugs?

Discord and bugs.akuparagames.com. Include build ID, map, and whether you were online or in split-screen. Store issues go to support@akuparagames.com.
